CAREER PROSPECTS AND OPPORTUNITIES

Preparing Global Engineers and Scientists
Mines students who hold undergraduate or advanced degrees in engineering or applied sciences in conjunction with an IPE graduate degree present employers with an exceptional opportunity to hire young professionals who can make decisions and do business in international and global contexts.

The MIPER program equips graduates with analytical decision-making skills that provide an understanding of the interaction between states and markets, especially in terms of their effect on natural resources development, government behavior, corporate policy, and country political risks.

The IPE program is ideally suited for:
• Undergraduate engineers, applied scientists, business, and liberal arts majors preparing for international careers.

• Mid-level corporate professionals, government civil servants, and military officers seeking to expand their understanding of how the world is put together, why it works the way it works, and where it is going, so that they can do their jobs more efficiently and productively.

• Part-time adult students who are self-employed consultants or who have retired but would like to pursue the graduate program in IPE to update and expand their knowledge of today’s complex modern world system.

Employment opportunities for students trained in IPE include:

• Civil and Diplomatic Services

• International Civil Service

• Multilateral Agencies

• Global Issue Non-governmental Organizations (NGOs)

• Trade & Finance Research Organizations

• Environmental Research Organizations

• Consulting Firms

• International Affairs

• Business Development

Also, graduates in IPE may pursue academic careers by advancing to doctoral programs in the social sciences, as well as professional degree paths in law and business. After graduation, they may consider academic, research, law, or business careers.
